The College of St Basil the Great
(also referred to as UWASCA or the UWA Medieval Society)

Welcome to the College of St Basil the Great, the University of Western Australia's branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism; part of the Kingdom of Lochac and Barony of Aneala. We are a group comprised of UWA students (and others) who strive to recreate the more pleasant aspects of pre-1600s Europe.

We are all interested in different aspects of Medieval life, and as such we take part in all kinds of activities. Some College members enjoy putting on armour and stabbing each other with pointy things, some prefer to watch from a distance while practicing embroidery. There are all sorts of activities some of which are sure to appeal to everyone including medieval dancing, fencing, illumination, archery, heraldry, heavy fighting, imbibing, costuming and armouring just to name a few.

Events such as feasts and tourneys are held regularly in the Barony where everyone dresses up in his or her best garb (medieval costume) and parttakes in a day (or night) of medieval fun. The only requirement for attending any event in the SCA is to wear an attempt at pre-1600 clothing. The College has loaner garb for those who wish to experience time in a medieval realm but have no faith in their sewing ability.

A note about the photos:
All photos taken (to the best of my knowledge) by Andre de Montsegur. While they are often not exclusively of St Basils' members I have attempted to select photos that contain at least one past or present College member or were taken at a College event. To see more of Andre's photos see his flickr gallery.
