Events or What We Do

The two most common types of events are Feasts and Tourneys. Feasts consist of setting up a hall to look medieval (banners and candles etc.), and holding a feast where everyone eats medieval food, and enjoys medieval entertainment (e.g. live music). Feasts cost a small amount of money to cover costs and hall hire, and you should try to bring a knife, spoon, (no fork!) plate, bowl, goblet and candles in candle holders (if you want to see what you are eating!). This equipment is generally referred to as feasting gear, and if you don't think you have everything you need, then contact the Hospitaller before the event to arrange to borrow some. You will also need to make an attempt at pre 1600s garb, which can also be borrowed by contacting the Hospitaller. Info on rustling up your own garb and feasting gear can be found here.

Tourneys are out of doors events revolving around fighting. They are usually based around 16th century European tournaments, and the emphasis is on chivalry and courtesy, as well as competition. These events are also held in garb, and you will need to sign a waiver (or if you are under 18 your parents must sign it). In order to participate in the actual combat you will need to attend training sessions and become authorised (which involves proving that you pose no danger to yourself or others).

There are other sorts of events held in garb, such as camping events, wars and quests, though these events don't occur as frequently. Newcomers are more than welcome to attend these also.

Finally there are a number of regular practices and meetings which occur on a weekly basis. These are held out of garb, and are generally open to anyone who is interested. Information on these events can be found in the Barony newsletter (the Innilgard Irregular), and here.
