As a part of our form of medieval recreation, we all create Personas. These are hypothetical people we would like to have been in the middle Ages, who have a medieval name and device (coat of arms). You can't take the name or device of a famous historical or mythological person (like Richard the Lionheart or King Arthur etc.). You also can't give yourself a title; all titles, from Lord and Lady to King and Queen, are earned through service, or won in combat, though it is still polite to call an untitled person my Lord or my Lady. People go to different lengths with their persona, some merely having a name, others creating an elaborate history for their persona including where they were born and when, and what happened in their life. During SCA events we call each other by our persona names.
