The SCA is a worldwide non profit organisation formed around 35 years ago in Berkley California, "....dedicated to the recreation of the Middles Ages..... not as they were, but as they should have been, doing away with the strife and pestilence, and emulating the grace, beauty and chivalry."
We are one of many "living history" groups around the place (there are several in Adelaide), and we try to recreate the general feel and Culture of Europe before 1600AD and after about 400-800AD, rather than re enacting specific events. A lot of us refer to anything from this time span as "period", and things from after 1600AD as not "period". Generally we hold Feasts, Tourneys and other medieval events, get dressed up in medieval clothes, and do things in a generally medieval way whilst at these events. The Society attracts a lot of different people, each with their own interests, and therefor it's possible to get involved in a lot of different activities such as fighting, archery, singing, music, dancing, brewing, calligraphy, heraldry, costuming, armouring, needlework, cooking and much more!
