Arts and Sciences

Arts and Sciences is held on the 3rd Sunday of every month between 1-5p.m. Please contact the A&S officer for details.

A&S Burble

The main focus of our A&S meetings is to encourage you to start researching, and making something that interests you, by introducing subjects and information. Most schedules are loosely themed around topics relevant to our up coming events.

A&S is there for you to achieve several things:
Gain access to information and research. Many of the senior group members have SCA libraries, experience, and knowledge about the arts and sciences. A&S is there so you can pick their brains (and view their books) on topics that you want to research and have a go at.

Find the time to work on that project and get it done, get some help with it, or get inspired over it.
Allow people to work on what interests them and keep A&S meetings current to group interests.
Have some fun doing what you like in the SCA

The aim of this format is to get you into the habit of working on and developing SCA projects.

Scheduled collegia will only be held if you request a specific topic that can not be answered at the time and someone in the group is be able to put a collegia together for the following meeting.

Remember that A&S is one of the ways people can get enthusiastic about the S.C.A and excited to go to events (and you can have new or improved trimmings to make it more fun:)

Please remember that you are welcome to share any pictures, bits of interesting history, or documentation about any A&S topic you wish to. Feel free to bring along and share or work on any A&S projects you are in the process of making.

We are continuing the new style A&S. The main focus is that you start researching, and making something that interests you.

Siggurd will teach us about herbs and gardening and fun things to do in Ye Old Gardens

May 18th A day in the Park - Queens Park
An opportunity to wear garb, play boche, and relax.
Pot Luck Arvo Tea, so bring along your thermos and something nibble-y to share.
Meet in the Queens Park Botanical Gardens corner of Campbell and Lindsay Streets.

June 15th Organising CMs Militia - Jones Farm
All fighters and those interested in the arts of war, combat, and armoury please gather so we can look at what out combat forces can do. All supporting members will be required for supporting the encampment.

Castellum Montanum A&S Competitions
(Or Great Ideas for Starting a Project)

There are two A&S competitions run for Castellum Montanum

Period Research

An essay, 1 to 2 A4 Pages in length, on any one topic in the S.C.A. period of history.
(There will be no points for essay writing skill, but there will be points for documentation, and topic creativity)

Period Containers

This is a fairly open category, the basic idea is painted boxes, but for those, less inclined towards fine painting a box made in period form.

Points will be awarded for documentation.
You may enter as many items as you like.
The competition will be judged when we get at least three entries

All attempts at the A&S competitions are welcome, please try to entries finished by the end of November so we can judge them at our December Pot Luck
