In case your browser mucks up the funny character the given name is Bj{o"}rn
Björn: Nordiskt runnamnslexikon by Lena Peterson, C.L. Ward (trans) http://www.dal.lu.se/runlex/index.htm s.n. Biörn states this name is from OW.Norse björn meaning bear Svartsson: Nordiskt runnamnslexikon s.n. Svartr gives this name from OW.Norse adjective svartr meanong swarthy or black Construction of patronymic from Viking Answer Lady Webpge - Old Norse Names http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/ONNames.shtml which shows names in -r become -sson. Rather than those sources I hope to document this name from the no photocopy source The Old Norse Name by Geirr Bassi Haraldsson. He shows Bj{o,}rn in the Landnámabók 42 times (page 8), Svartr 4 times (page 15) and the construction of a patronymic on page 17. Can anyone comment on the use of {o"} o-umlaut in one source and {o,} o-ogonek in the other? |
