The Krae Glas singers at William Marshal feast, AS XXXVIIThe Shire of Krae Glas is the local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The SCA is a world-wide organisation that seeks to recreate all aspects of the Middle Ages (pre-1600) primarily in Western Europe. Feasts, tournaments, dancing, heraldry, calligraphy and illumination, crafts, and just about anything that would have been part of life in Medieval Europe and environs will be undertaken by members of the SCA. The local branches are the backbone of the group, where people can gather socially to research and pursue their interests with like minded individuals.

Upcoming Events are run several times a year, and are the big occasions at which people can wear their latest frock creation, partake in a sumptuous feast (cooked using recipes found in the Middle Ages) or gather by the List Field to cheer on warriors and knights as they indulge in chivalric combat. Other events may include potluck feasts, where each person brings a plate of Medieval food to share with 8-10 others, Collegia, where classes are taught about the various crafts and pastimes a Medieval person could have known, Investitures and Coronations, where Barons, Baronesses, Kings and Queens assume their positions of responsibility, and Period Camping, where we live in pavilions and dress, eat and entertain in the manner of a noble traveling or in the field would.

Lady Teffania Tuckerton trying a new craft (soteltie making)Regular Meetings are where things like events are planned, small workshops on a craft are run, guilds meet to pursue their special interest, our warriors learn the art of battle and information is passed along.

And now, for those interested in the Arts of Combat, we have pages designed to help you get training, get into armor, and get on the field.

Officers and Contacts are the oil in the machinery of bureaucracy that keeps the wheels of the SCA running smoothly. A list of officers and contacts for them, as well as links to subscribe to useful e-mail lists.

Guilds are the place where people with special interests meet to peruse them. Active Guilds in Victoria are the Cooks Guild, Tailor, Milliners, Textiles, Embroiderers and Scribes. A Brewers Guild is becoming active again. There is also a group of players (thespians). At the national level there are guilds for gardening, woodworking, metal work, jewelry, lampworking, and many more.
