Regular Meetings

The Shire of Krae Glas is the local group of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a world wide organization that researches and recreates the Middle Ages (pre 1600 western Europe and those civilizations it had contact with). The Shire is in turn part of the Kingdom of Lochac , which is made up of Australia and New Zealand .  It comprises the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne , the Mornington Peninsula , the Bass Coast and West Gippsland . (See maps and postcodes) The Shire is lucky to also count as a part of it, the College of St Monica , based at Monash University 's Clayton campus. Like any group, the Shire holds regular meetings and activities. This document explains these meetings.

Dance Practice - Friday evenings before fighter training 6pm, during university teaching weeks. Contact Teffania for details. Free, not a garbed event, everyone welcome.

Krae Glas/St Monicas Fighter training: Every Friday night, commencing at 7:45pm, at "Castle Greyskull", the old multi-storey carpark in the south-east corner of Monash University 's Clayton campus. Enter from Wellington Rd , turn right at the first roundabout, and keep going straight until your in the multi-storey carpark.

Heavy fighting, rapier, combat archery and general socializing all happen here. Spare armor is often available, but please remember that armor is not a one size fits all proposition. At the very least, remember to bring your own groin protection and sturdy boots that cover the ankles. After that we may be able to fit you into something. Even if you can't get into armor, we usually do ¼ speed drills out of armor too. Contact Cormac for further details.

St Monica's Meetings - Hear Ye Hear Ye ! The College of St Monica will e holding their first of many Arts and Sciences Evenings. Come one and all to learn from others and try your hand at new things. There will also be an oportunity for you to work on any A&S project
that you would like to bring with you.
Time: from 6:30 til late
Where: Monash UNi campus in the education building (the one opposite the oakgrove where STTS is held) in the tute room G19.
Price: Free, so theres another reason for you to come along ;)
Contact: Bridget if you have any problems or want more infomaion.

Shire Arts and Sciences workshops: 2nd Saturday of each month, held at Gwynfor and Gwir's (2 Sherwood Rd , Mount Waverley 9806 0405), commencing at 1pm. The cost to attend is zero dollars. Yes, it's free! and are not garbed events.

This is our "get stuff done" day. On any given workshop day we might have cooks in the kitchen, weavers and spinners in the lounge room, wood/metal/leather workers in the workshop, calligraphers and illuminators and garb makers at tables, brewers out the back, fighters training in the yard and people working at name and device research in the family room. Future plans include building a cooking pit and a small forge in the back yard (for casting/jewellery/fittings making). Just about anything that was undertaken in the Middle Ages can be at least researched, and probably worked on, during these afternoons. The Shire is fortunate to have people with expertise in a dizzying variety of fields, including heraldry, dance, music tablature, singing, costuming, millinery, calligraphy and illumination, armoring, brewing, cooking, event planning, embroidery, weaving, dyeing, spinning, leatherwork, metalwork, jewelry, bead making, apiary (bee keeping), pottery, maille making, theatre, training fighters, blacksmithing, horn work, games, siege weaponry, archery and a whole lot more. Further, if you have a new area of interest, it is very likely someone else will also want to give it a go.
Bring along a project to work on, something to teach, that wonderful research you've been doing, or questions to ask of the rest of us. A snack doesn't go astray, either. And, the house is child friendly!

Shire Council meetings: 4th Wednesday of each month, held at (underconsideration atm, please see calendar to latest details) commencing at 8pm. Council meetings are free to attend. That's right, they cost nothing! and are not garbed events.

This is where the Officers and populace of the Shire make the decisions that affect how we operate. Events are planned, officers give their reports on activities in their portfolio, social activities are discussed and stuff happens. These meetings offer a marvelous opportunity to have input into what the Shire does, be part of an event team, and learn about the fabulously diverse undertakings of the Shire's members. Naturally, you should feel free to bring along a project you're working on to show and tell, work on, discuss or get opinions on. Embroidery, maille making, garb making, spinning with a drop spindle or any small portable work in progress is eminently suitable. Castle construction, trebuchet testing and longship building probably won't work in the relatively small space a meeting requires.
