Fighting

As always, combat activities play an important role at the Rowany Festival. The energetic can choose from the Heraldic Teams Melee, the Rowany Fighter Auction (which has over 100 fighters in it this year), a full day of war, pick up fights on the list field nearly any time, the Baronial Challenge, and for the Guild of Defence folks, the Baroness's Tourney, Prize Playing and pick up fights. Festival represents a prime opportunity to hit friends from distant parts of the land one sees too seldom, and play with some of the overseas visitors too.

Fighter Auction Tourney

The Fighter Auction Tourney is the largest tourney held in the Kingdom of Lochac. This year in excess of 100 doughty warriors put their names on the list and stepped up to the block to be auctioned by the team of auctioneers (Baron Master Alain of Dragonvarle, Baroness Mistress Maguerite de Rada y Sylva, Baron Master Stephen Aldred and Baron Master Gwynfor Lwyd). Bidding was fierce, and in some cases in a fiscally negative direction. The auction raises money for important Lochac and Festival projects every year, and the auction itself is one of the highlights of Festival as hundreds gather in the tavern in the cold evening air to bid, socialise and watch the tension unfold.

The next day fighters arm at a very early hour (well, about 10ish, but it's all relative) and make their way to the list field. The entrants are divided into four fields initially, named for each of four Baronies of Lochac. The tourney is fought as a double elimination, single kill, with a best of three final (though some years it has been best of 11, first to 15 and other such weirdnesses).
