Summer Twilight Tourney Series II

February Wrap-up

The following being an accounting of the formal bits of Month Four of the Summer Twilight Tourney Series the Second.

The sudden and aggressive thunder storm saw us move this evenings festivities to the undercover car park, but didn't dampen the fun or enjoyment of all. Much fantastic food was brought and consumed; much dancing and laughter was heard; and many bouts where fought, much to the delight and amusement of all; a visitor from Drakenwald, who was once a St Monician; a noble Knight, who even after the fighters had finished their tourney, stayed on to do some training;

Heavy Tourney - Valhalla Tourney Style - The winner of a bout then tries to winner all other fighters in the list. Master Gwynfor achieved this in less then 20 minutes of fighting, while starting last in the list. It was then decided to do a King of the Hill type fighting. By the end of the allotted time (90 minutes) Master Gwynfor had completed three Valhallas and Lord Frederick once, though he got close one other time.We saw Master Cormac and Lord Corin using new or vastly modified weapons and doing excellently with them.

Mistress Elspeth - Elizabethan Sonnet

  • Gilligan's doco might have won it alone!  His style has definitely improved and I like his imagery (although I initially thought his witch was killing herself at the end of the sonnet rather than 'tripping', but the doco cleared that up).
  • Gwynfor gets points for originality - the weather was obviously inspirational.   His style hasn't changed much since the beginning of the comp, but I admire his ability to produce a sonnet on demand.
  • This one goes to Gilligan.

11 Pears Composte - Pears stewed in red wine with sugar coated pine nuts for topping

12 Salat - Documentation supplied: From and Redaction (Comments for submission to LCG)

13 Crispels - As many medical recies are very vauge, I decided to use a way simple recipe that had also already been redacted. I also learned not to let my mind wander while frying with oil - these Crispels would be better termed "Very Crispels". Golden syrup was brought as well as honey to cater for those with allergies. Recips for the Crispels and the dough they are made from are attache: Crispels and Paest Royall and Original Text and for Tartee

Elizabethian Sonnet

15 Gilligan of St Barts

The thorn-apple I found at night:
Thou rogue, whence didst thou thy deception get
If not from my love's mind? The modest white
WHich on they blooms false purity doth set
Was took from him as he did fall a height.

Delight! I spy a fruit tha' hath his claws
Another to return his bones refused
At vegetative eyes I stared in awe;
One sickly gilt; another purple bruised

The gold I pluck'd - I needed beefmeat not
My pouch I did entrust to keep it well
With mandrake root I put it in the pot
Where bell'donna and fat did mix and gel

The unction on my willing flesh I smeared
My love! I flew to him as midnight neared

Description: A sonnet in the Elizabethan style, composed in irmbic pentameter and comprising the quatrain, a couplet and an introductory line.

The sonnet is an invertion of Shakespear 99th "the Forword violet thus did I chide".
- where Shakespear disparges , I praise
- when he uses a Deadly Sin, I use HolyVirtue

.It was a challenge to write this ans sustain the work as a sonnet in its own right, but I very much enjoyed it.

3 Gwynfor Lwyd

Thy mood perchance grey hued and most turgid
swirling light crowned countenance dark brow'ed
Upon us stealing in roiling waves frigid
Tears crashing stertonoruiun cowered.

Neath paltry shelter seeking safe haven
In awe of wrath grey cloaked, frightening
Strowest warriors would hap seem craven
Conduct themselves most seemly, yet lightning

What fearsome force resisting cnduction,
of stern nettle, but clad in fine metal
inducng chivalry's Splendid function,
Current, storm abated, finest fettle.

Wrath of gods or a natural wonder
Knights seek shelter or be torn asunder.

Description: a crappy sonnet based on the weather prevelent on the eve in question

Usual doco --> it;s a sonnet
