Purpose & Proposal

Event Schedule and Proposals

Purpose and Proposal (the idea)

We would like to challenge those interested in Food and the European Middle Ages to research, document and prepare a medieval feast. This feast will be structured, prepared and presented in medieval style. The aim of these events is to create a vehicle for an experimental archeological approach to medieval cooking, with the emphasis on the accuracy of the feast, from the food to the ambience to the entertainment. With fixed costs, and a generous food budget it is anticipated that events of a very high quality will result.

We are inviting any and all who are interested to put forth a proposal. You may be a newer medieval cook who wants to do a small first feast or an experienced cook who would like to try something different or extravagent, with fixed staff and budget.

We offer the use of venue and entertainments appropriate to the structure, to wit:

  • You will be serving 24 people plus yourself.
  • You are the architect and principle cook and will be allowed 2 helpers and a dish washer if required or desired..
  • Kitchen provided with equipment and serving dishes.
  • You will have a food budget of $500.

What we are looking for in a proposal:

  • The feast must be themed by geographic and chronological location, ie place, time and style of cuisine.
  • Tell us what the challenge is for you, ie first feast, new research topic, desire to use a specified cooking method, etc.
  • Documentation/research. We want to see as much as you have. Leap of faith cooking is fine, but we want to see your reasoning for making any leaps.

Upon receipt of your proposal and documentation a location and date will be chosen, and invitations promulgated.

It is anticipated that there will be 2-4 of these events a year. The series has no end date. We will keep holding the events while we have enthusiastic cooks and addicted gourmands.
