Thrown Weapons, Slings and Staff Slings in The Kingdom of Lochac.
Sorry to do this, but I have received numerous complaints regarding the construction of thrown weapons and the impact per square inch of the same. I’m suspending the use of them in Lochac for a short period of time until I can get some advise and testing done. This applies to Slings and staff slings as well.
My concern is that being hit in the back of the head or in the side of the helmet by either a 200gram thrown axe or a 500gram ball, when you’re not ready for it, might cause some damage to the person. Count Stephen and I bounced two axes at Rowany (due to the manner of construction) and I’ve been told that people are making throwing maces that hit like rocks.
I need time to look into this and make sure the weapons are safe and that the construction is correct.
This does not affect Combat Archery or Siege Weapons. Sorry if this is putting people out...safety is my major concern here, nothing else.Could all marshals please send this out and have it published in your local news letter.
October 12 , 2007 Rules update
Version 2.1 of the Kingdom of Lochac Combat Handbook has been released. The change log since version 2.0 can be found here.August 25 , 2007 Announcement
Helms:
Some confusion seems to be existing with the use of the old light helms and the new Kingdom Laws. This should clarify the misunderstanding.
All helms are to conform to the current armour standards for the Kingdom of Lochac. The only exemption is for helms constructed prior to August 2004 (So called light combat helms) and that helm must and can only be used by the owner as a Plumed Combat Archer helmet. The helmet cannot be used by any other person or given or sold to any other person for use in the SCA. That exemption is a grandfather exemption that was given for two years so that people had time to bring their helmet up to the new society wide heavy minimum standard. That exemption was extended by me to till 1st August 2008 to fall in line with the final change over date for all armour.
“Grandfathered light helms” are not to be sold or given for use to any other person. The owner of the helmet prior to 1st August 2004 is deemed to be the owner of the helmet now and the only person who can use the helmet.
Just to make it clear for everyone and all marshals….if anyone hands on or sells a “Grandfathered Archery Helm” for use on the field marshals are instructed to “pull” both the users and formers owners authorizations until the matter has been fully investigated. I will not allow these few old “light” helms to keep doing the rounds because people won’t get off their ass and make a new helmet.
Hope this makes it clear for everyone.
Regards
Lochswan

June 22, 2007: : The new Kingdom of Lochac Fighters Handbook has been released. This supplants all previous revisions of the KOLCH and will be effective from Monday the 25th of June 2007. This is the fighters' handbook only, not the whole KOlCH. The revised marshals handbook is still being worked on and will be released along with the fighters handbook as a combined KOLCH as soon as it is ready. This is an entirely new handbook, not just a revision of the previous KOLCH and there are a significant number of changes from the previous version as well as an entirely new format. Please take the time to read and become familiar with it. Plumed participants (lights) have until August 1st 2008 to come into compliance with minimum legal heavy armour standards. All other standards, including other changes to the in these rules come into effect from Monday the 25th of June 2007. Please send feedback on the document and/or the rules to kolch@sca.org.au. This book is not carved in stone. It is intended to be a living document and updates will be published as and when necessary. When minor updates are released the minor version number will be bumped e.g., from 2.0 to 2.1. A major revision (e.g., 2.4 up to 3.0) will be released every two years or every major revision of the society rules, whichever comes first. So that people with printed copies don't have to print the whole thing again when minor changes are made, in addition to being incorporated into the book an errata sheet will be updated containing all changes from the last major revision. - Lord William de Wyke
June 22, 2007: "People of Lochac the above message from my Deputy Combat Laws ends a two year evolution of the KOLCH. Make no mistake...this was not the work of this Earl Marshal...I did nothing...total credit for all the long hard hours of meticulous research, qualitative and quantitative analysis together with effective evaluation have been achieved only by the dedication of Lord William, Master Llewelyn and their hard working team who contributed to this final product. I've always said that consultation and open discussion will be the hallmark of my tenure in office and Lord William and his team have taken this to the highest levels in the true sense of the words. My personal thanks to William Lord William, Master Llewelyn and their team".for such a fine product."
