Francesca's Autocratting Guide
WARNING! This is not for the faint-hearted. Some years ago, Mistress Francesca Cellini wrote some
explanations of how to run events and demos in the barony. Unfortunately, by the time she'd put in everything she
knew, the result was huge and scary. It managed to frighten me off running a feast, even though I've done it a
dozen times before! I wrote a much simpler, friendlier document
that tells you essentially the same stuff without quite as much detail; I suggest you read that first, and
only come back to this one if you want to be sure you haven't missed anything.
Also be aware that this document is fairly old - seven years or more. A lot of what's in here may be out of date.
If there's a demand, I'll detail a deputy to update it, but in the mean time, take care.
The original included a link to various public liability insurance documents. See the Reeve for this information,
if your venue requires it.
Running an event can be quite time-consuming and complex, particularly if you have never run one before and aren't
quite sure what to do. The following guide has been developed to give those people within the Barony who wish to
run an event information about the issues which need to be considered and the processes to be followed.
Part One of the Guide covers the following areas:
- Planning an event
- Budgeting
- Writing the bid submission
Part Two of the Guide addresses autocrats'
financial reporting responsibilities, and includes pro-formas for the financial reports which are required from
the autocrats. All autocrats, regardless of experience, are expected to use this section of the Guide for their
event.

Bookings Policy
The barony has a Bookings Policy for its events, but it's still unofficial. Take a look, and let the
Seneschal know if you have any suggestions.
Officers' Blogs
Every baronial officer is now welcome to set up a blog, or web log, to communicate with the barony about their portfolio.
If you're an officer, you can use your blog to keep in touch with the barony and with the seneschal and baron and baroness,
so they know what you're up to. Owain is quite happy to take your blog posts as your official report, if you keep them
reasonably up to date.
As a service to the barony while the sca.org.au server waits for an upgrade, Karl Faustus von Aachen is hosting the blogs on
his personal website. Once the sca.org.au server is upgraded, the blogs will move
over there, but all the old content will be carried over.
Check out the list of officers' blogs here.
Help With Heraldry
Jehan de Bonifacio writes: For those who are wanting to work on their own device (it's soooo pretty to
see all those banners and shields) there are 342680 (new version!) pages of traceable heraldry at
the Æthelmearc College of Heralds website. [NOTE: PDF file; requires Acrobat Reader or equivalent.]
Each blazon has a couple of pages with a wide range of sizes for you to use,
rather than having to scale your pictures up and down by hand. The best
thing is that all the pictures come from approved devices so it is mauch
easy to get your device submission approved.
Photo Gallery
The latest addition to the site is the photo gallery. If you have any photos you'd like to add, please contact the
Hierophant. And if there are photos of you that you don't want on the site, let him know that too and he'll take them down.
We're still missing a lot of the attribution and copyright details for the existing photos. If you're the photographer or
you own the rights to any of these photos, please get in touch to confirm their status.
