Chronicle of Events
The rank of Members of the Royal Guild of Defence in the Kingdom of Lochac is determined by the playing of Prizes. These Prizes constitute an examination of the fitness of a Member to hold rank, according to their knowledge and application of period techniques, as tested by Members at or higher than the rank to which the candidate aspires.
This Chronicle records for posterity the Prizes that have been played since the creation of the Kingdom of Lochac in July AS37 (2002). It has been drawn up according to the best efforts of the Provost Secretary, according to the available records, including announcements of Prize results in the Guild journal and on the Fencers List. The Provost Secretary invites comment from any who believes this record is inaccurate.

On
the Seventh Day of December, at the Yule Feast, Scholar Luan an Fael,
sponsored by Provost Angus the Barbarian, did play his Free Scholar's Prize in
rapier and dagger. The examiners did agree that the scholar had successfully
played the Prize and did advance him to the rank of Free Scholar.

On the Fifteenth Day of December:
Scholar
Morwenna Aefled O'Glyn, sponsored by Provost Sabine d'Ricoldi da Forli,
did play her Journeyman's Prize in the following weapons: rapier and dagger;
rapier and buckler; and rapier. The
candidate was examined by Journeyman Cynewulf and Provost Sabine.
The examiners did agree that the scholar had successfully played the
Prize and did advance her to the rank of Journeyman; and

play her Free Scholar's Prize in single rapier.

On the Twelfth Day of April at Rowany
Festival:
Scholar Miles de Colwell, sponsored by
Guildmaster ibn Jelal, did play his Free Scholar's prize in sword, according
to the armoured combat standards of the Kingdom. The examiners did agree that
the scholar had successfully played the Prize and did advance him to the rank
of Free Scholar; and
Scholar Luan O'Cliaranach an Fael, sponsored
by Guildmaster ibn Jelal, did play his Journeyman's Prize in the following
weapons: rapier; rapier and cloak; and case of rapier.
The examiners did agree that the Free Scholar had successfully played
the Prize and did advance him to the rank of Journeyman; and
Free Scholar Aeddan ap Andreas, sponsored by
Guildmaster ibn Jelal, did play his Journeyman's Prize in the following
weapons: rapier; rapier and dagger; and case of rapier.
The examiners did agree that the Free Scholar had successfully played
the Prize and did advance him to the rank of Journeyman.
On the Thirteenth Day
of April at Rowany Festival, Provost Silfren the Singer, sponsored by Ancient
Guildmaster Dameon Greybeard and with the permission of the Body of
Guildmasters, did play her Guildmaster's Prize in the following weapons:
rapier; rapier and dagger; case of rapier; rapier and cloak; rapier and baton;
rapier and parrying gauntlet; and rapier and buckler. The candidate was
examined by Ancient Guildmasters Dameon Greybeard, Francois Henri Guyon and Arenwald von
Hagenburg and Guildmaster ibn Jelal. The Guildmasters concluded that the candidate had most successfully
played the Prize, and did raise Silfren the Singer to the rank, privileges and
responsibilities of Guildmaster in the Royal Guild of Defence in Lochac.

On the Sixth day of June AS 38 at the
Innilgard Winter Collegium:
Scholar Gregory Tortouse de Sloleye,
sponsored by Provost Aylwin Greymane, did play his Provost prize against
Guildmasters Dameon Greybeard, Francois Henri Guyon and Silfren the Singer
with these weapons, viz: single rapier, rapier and buckler, rapier and dagger,
rapier and baton, case of rapier. After long and intensive testing from the aforementioned
Guildmasters, Gregory did carry away his Journeyman's Prize, with the
permission of the Guildmasters that he may replay his Provost prize at any
time in the future that his sponsor considers him ready; and
Journeyman
Cornelius von Becke did play his Provost's prize against Guildmasters Dameon
Greybeard, Francois Henri Guyon and Provost Aylwin Greymane with these
weapons, viz: In standard rapier play, single rapier, rapier and buckler,
rapier and dagger; in sidesword play, single rapier, rapier and dagger. In
other weapon weapons, long sword (hand & a half) in the German style of
the 15th century. After long and intensive testing from the aforementioned
examiners, Cornelius did carry away his Provost's Prize.

On the Eighth Day of July, at Midwinter
Coronation:
Scholar Raphael le Papillon, sponsored by
Guildmaster ibn Jelal, did play his Free Scholar's Prize in single rapier.
The candidate was examined by Free Scholar Owain Cantor ap Hugh, Journeyman
Alfred se Leof, Provost Angus the Barbarian and Guildmaster Silfren the
Singer. The body of examiners did agree that the scholar had successfully
played the Prize, and did acknowledge and advance him to the rank of Free
Scholar; and
Free Scholar Owain Cantor ap Hugh, sponsored
by Provost Diccon Shorthand, did play his Journeyman's Prize in the
following weapons: single rapier; rapier and dagger; and rapier and buckler.
The candidate was examined by Journeyman Alfred se Leof, Provost Angus the
Barbarian and Guildmaster Silfren the Singer.The body of examiners did agree
after much deliberation that the Free Scholar had successfully played the
Prize, and did acknowledge and advance him to the rank of Journeyman.
The successful candidates were then presented
to Her Majesty Queen Nerissa, who presented them with their scarves.

by Free Scholars Dafydd Wallraven and Bonnie of Blessed Herman, Journeyman
Gregory Tortouse de Sloleye and Provost Sir Haos Windchaser. The body of
examiners did agree that the scholar had successfully played the Prize, and
did acknowledge and advance him to the rank of Free Scholar; and
Scholar Fionghuine MacCoinneach did play his
Free Scholar's Prize in rapier and baton. The candidate was examined by Free
Scholars Dafydd Wallraven and Bonnie of Blessed Herman, Journeyman Gregory
Tourtouse de Sloleye and Provost Sir Haos Windchaser. The body of examiners
did agree that the scholar had successfully played the Prize, and did
acknowledge and advance him to the rank of Free Scholar; and
Scholar Marc de Montfault did play his Free
Scholar's Prize in single rapier. The candidate was examined by Free
Scholars Dafydd Wallraven and Bonnie of Blessed Herman, Journeyman Gregory
Tortouse de Sloleye and Provost Haos Windchaser. The body of examiners did
agree that the scholar had successfully played the Prize, and did acknowledge
and advance him to the rank of Free Scholar; and
Scholar Tostig Atte Scelga did play his Free
Scholar's prize in single rapier. The candidate was examined by Journeyman
Gregory Tortouse de Sloleye and Provosts Don Aylwin Greymane and Sir Haos
Windchaser. The body of examiners did agree that the scholar had successfully
played the Prize, and did acknowledge and advance him to the rank of Free
Scholar.
St Florians - August AS38
On the Twelfth Day of August, at the
Gathering of the Guilds, Provost Henry the Fox, sponsored by Ancient
Guildmaster Edmund the Lame, did play his Guildmaster's Prize in single
rapier, rapier and dagger, case of rapier, rapier and buckler, rapier and
cape, rapier and baton and rapier and parrying gauntlet. The candidate was
examined by Ancient Guildmaster Edmund the Lame, Ancient Guildmaster Dameon
Greybeard, Guildmaster ibn Jelal and Guildmaster Silfren the Singer. The
examining Guildmasters did find the candidate most deserving of the Prize and
did acclaim and elevate Henry the Fox to the rank of Guildmaster of Defence.
Henry was presented with his black sash that night during the Court of Their
Excellencies, the Baron and Baroness of St Florians. The instructors of the
Rowany Guild School did also present him with the tools of his trade, to whit
equipment suitable for the training of his students.

Festival, Provost Caleb Adolphous, with the permission of the Body of
Guildmasters, did play his Guildmaster's Prize in longsword, shortsword,
rapier and parrying gauntlet, rapier and cloak, rapier and dagger, rapier and
buckler, and case of rapier. After deliberation, the body of examiners did
conclude that the candidate had not successfully played the Prize.

William Forrester de Blacwode, Hagen von Duernstein, Gregory Tortouse de
Sloleye, Tostig Atte Scelta and Emrys Tudur, and Guildmaster Henry Fox.
The examiners agreed that the candidate had successfully played the
Prize and did elevate him to the rank of Journeyman.

Fifteenth Days of April at Rowany Festival, Free Scholar Prospero di Luca

polearm. The candidate was
examined by Journeymen Emrys Tudur, William Forrester de Blacwode, Tostig Atte
Scelta, Fionghuine MacConnich, Gregory Tortouse de Sloleye and Miles de
Colwell, Provost Caleb Adolphous, and Guildmasters Henry Fox and ibn Jelal. Following discussion, the examiners agreed that the candidate
had successfully played the Prize and did elevate him to the rank of
Journeyman.
On Sunday the Sixteenth Day of April at
Rowany Festival:
Free Scholar Donncadh Bailie, sponsored by
Provost Sabine d'Ricoldi da Forli, and in accordance with the Lord
Guildmaster's decree, did play his Journeyman's Prize in the following
weapons: rapier and parrying gauntlet; rapier and dagger; and rapier and
buckler. The candidate was
examined by Journeymen William Forrester de Blacwode and Fionghuine MacConnich,
Provost Diccon Shorthand, and Guildmasters Henry Fox, ibn Jelal and Francois
Henri Guyon. During his third form, the candidate suffered a knee injury and
was unable to continue. However,
following discussion, the examiners agreed that the candidate had successfully
played the Prize and did elevate him to the rank of Journeyman; and
Journeyman Gregory Tortouse de Sloleye,
sponsored by Guildmaster Don Dameon Greybeard, did play his Provost's Prize in
the following weapons: rapier; rapier and buckler; rapier and cloak; case of
rapier; and rapier and dagger. The
candidate was examined by Provosts Diccon Shorthand and Owain Cantor ap Hughe,
and Guildmasters ibn Jelal, Silfren the Singer, Henry Fox and Francois Henri
Guyon. The examiners agreed that the candidate had most successfully
played the Prize and did elevate him to the rank of Provost.

On the Twelfth Day of August, at the North of
the Border Fest, Provost Caleb Adolphous, sponsored by Lord Guildmaster Dameon
Greybeard, and with the approval of the Body of Guildmasters, did play his
Guildmaster's Prize in the following weapons: case of rapier; rapier and
dagger; rapier and parrying gauntlet; rapier and buckler; rapier and cloak;
rapier and baton; and rapier. The candidate was examined by Guildmasters
Silfren the Singer, Henry Fox, ibn Jelal and Edmund the Lame. At the
conclusion of the forms, at the request of Their Excellencies the Baron and
Baroness of River Haven, Provost Caleb faced Guildmaster Edmund in a final
bout for the life of a hostage (played most ably by Provost Somerled of
Redcliffe). The Guildmasters concluded that the candidate had most
successfully played his Prize, and did raise Don Caleb Adolphus to the rank,
privileges and responsibilities of Guildmaster in the Royal Guild of Defence
in Lochac.

the examiners agreed that the Scholar had successfully played the Prize and
did advance him to the rank of Free Scholar.

On Sunday the Fifth Day of November at
November Crown in Ynys Fawr, Scholar Cristina Antonia Cortes, sponsored by
Provost Piers of Malmesbury, did play her Free Scholar's Prize in the
following weapons, viz Rapier. The
candidate was examined by Provosts Alessandro von Florenz, Somerled of
Redcliffe, Grogory Tortouse de Sloleye and Piers of Malmesbury.
The examiners agreed that the candidate had successfully played the
Prize and did elevate her to the rank of Free Scholar.

The candidate was examined by Ancient Guildmaster Edmund the Lame, Ancient
Guildmaster Don Dameon Greybeard, Guildmaster Don Henry Fox, Guildmaster Don
ibn Jelal, Guildmaster Silfren the Singer and Guildmaster Don Caleb Adolphous.
Following the playing of the Prize, the examiners did conduct an oral
examination to ascertain the candidate's knowledge of the artes of defence.
Following due consideration, the examiners did conclude that the candidate had
played his Prize in most exemplary fashion and had demonstrated great depth in
his knowledge of his chosen field. The examiners did agree that the candidate
had most successfully played the Prize and did elevate him to the rank,
privileges and responsibilities of Guildmaster. Guildmaster Don Angus
Galbraith was accorded his Guildmaster's rank in the presence of Their
Majesties Draco and Asa, Crown Princess Gudrun and Their Excellencies the
Baron and Baroness of Rowany, receiving in token the black sash of his
sponsor, Ancient Guildmaster Edmund.
On Sunday the Third Day of December at Rowany Yule, Scholar Aegidius de Hammo, sponsored by Guildmaster Don Angus Galbraith, did play his Free Scholar's Prize in the following weapon, viz Rapier. The candidate was examined by Free Scholar Elizabeth, Ancient Guildmaster Edmund the Lame, Guildmaster Don Henry Fox, Guildmaster Don ibn Jelal and Guildmaster Silfren the Singer. The examiners agreed that the candidate had successfully played the Prize and did elevate him to the rank of Free Scholar.
