HISTORY
I joined the Society in 1991, and first got interested with fencing in
1994 as part of my first living expedition to the Barony of River Haven
(central). I turned up to the practice expecting Olympic foil, which I
had learnt previously at the same place. I authorised at the Bacchus Wood
Anniversary event in 1994, and by either chance or skill (I still don't
know which) came second in the tournament. I became Baronial Rapier
Champion in 1995 and held it until 2000, through the infamous rapier ban
in the West. I retired briefly in 2000 and took it again in 2001. From
about 1996 I started training with Paul Sawtell, and learnt at a great
rate of knots, I still thank him for the privilege. It is thanks to Paul
that I have been able to progress so well and achieve the rank of Provost
in 2001 at Rowany Festival. I became Baronial Rapier Marshal of River
Haven in 2001, and only recently relinquished it to my successor. I have
established two fencing schools, one in Castellum Montanum, which has
since ceased to exist and the most recent one in River Haven (central)
which is growing nicely. In at the Investiture of Baron Somerled of
Redcliffe and Baroness Caelia the Fair in 2002, I was awarded with the
Order of the Rapier of Lochac, and much to my surprise, was elevated to
the rank of Court Baron at the same event, by His Majesty King Alfar and
Her Majesty Queen Elspeth. Guildmaster Henry played his Guildmaster's
Prize against Ancient Guildmaster Edmund the Lame, Ancient Guildmaster
Dameon Greybeard, Guildmaster ibn Jelal and Guildmaster Silfren the
Singer, at the Gathering of the Guilds in St Florians, 2003. He is the
second person to achieve the rank of Guildmaster of Defence in
Lochac.

HISTORY
Ibn Jelal joined the Society in 1992, and first got interested with
fencing in 1996 as part of the effort by the Shire of Dismal Fogs to
expand their activities. As luck would have it, the infamous West Kingdom
fencing ban happenned about 2 months after they started! He started
training again in mid-1998, when Peter Linich, Maestro di Scherma started
teaching SCA members at the College of St Augustine. Under this expert
tuition, ibn Jelal went on to quickly move through the Guild ranks,
playing his Journeyman's Prize in midwinter 1999, and his Provost's Prize
at Festival 2000. This Provost's Prize was a watershed in Guild history,
as he and Silfren both played their prizes according to the tenets of the
London Masters of Defence. This was the first time anyone in the Kingdom
had done so, and has since become the standard method for playing the
prize. Festival 2000 also saw ibn Jelal step up as Lochac Rapier Marshal
and go on to revitalise the Rapier Marshallate. Later that year, ibn
Jelal, along with the other Provosts resident in Rowany, established the
Rowany Guild School for the provision of structured fencing tuition to
the populace of Rowany. The school is still thriving to this day. At
Rowany Festival (Easter) 2002, ibn Jelal played his Guildmaster's Prize
against Ancient Guildmasters Francois Henri Guyon and Dameon Greybeard,
as well as the Crown's Courtier Michael of Castle Keep. The prize was
played before hrM Portia, who along with the Guildmasters present deemed
ibn Jelal worthy of elevation. Guildmaster ibn Jelal was the first and
only Lochac Guildmaster of Fence to have played his Prize before
elevation under the West Kingdom Guild rules. Midwinter 2002, saw Lochac
become a Kingdom, and ibn Jelal now found himself the new Kingdom Rapier
Marshal. He also found himself, along with Ancient Guildmaster Dameon
Greybeard, being inducted as the Premier members of the Order of the
White Scarf of Lochac, much to their embarrassment. Don ibn Jelal was the
first Lord Guildmaster of the Lochac Royal Guild of Defence.

HISTORY
I joined the Society at the beginning of 1990 and became a heavy fighter.
Introduced mace fighting to Innilgard. I was Prince from September 1992
to January 1993, during which time I became acquainted with Edmund the
Lame and Francois Henri Guyon and rapier combat in the Society. Continued
with that interest, as well as heavy fighting afterwards. Heavy fighter
trainer in Innilgard from 1995 to 1999. Edmund took me on as a fencing
cadet in 1996 and the partnership continued on for several very
productive years. I was coerced into the position of Innilgard Baronial
Rapier Marshal by ibn Jelal and others at Rowany in 2001, and I have
stayed in it since. I am also rapier trainer for the Barony. I have held
the offices of Baronial Rapier Marshal, Captain of Archers, Chronicler

Astonishing, and Lochac Seneschal. On the 7th of June, AS XXXVIII (2003),

HISTORY
Emrys has been in re-enactment in one
form or another since the early 1980s in England, mainly with the Sealed Knot
and other English Civil War groups. Having moved to New Zealand, Emrys became
part of the newly founded Shire of Ildhafn and has been here ever since. Emrys
co-launched Rapier in the Crescent Isles along with William de Cameron. At
this time the Shires and Baronies of New Zealand were in debate to decide if
they would stay with Caid or move to the soon to be formed Kingdom of Lochac.
So with this in mind, William and Emrys hedged their bets, with William making
contacts and authorising in Lochac and Emrys doing the same in Caid. Since
then both have been involved with the Western Martial Arts movement in New
Zealand, which has allowed us to learn and teach a more period style, which we
have continued to do to this day. Emrys travels on business regularly and
takes his rapier gear along at every opportunity to teach or just fight.

HISTORY
I stumbled across a rapier tourney at a Canberra picnic area around
Valentines 2001 and started lessons with Guildmaster Francois Henri Guyon
three days later. I then moved into the Gore St school run by Francois
and Guildmaster Dameon Greybeard. I authorised in November 2001 and
successfully played my Free Scholar's Prize in single rapier at Rowany
Festival in 2002. At Festival 2003, I was surprised to find myself named
the winner of the Baroness' Rapier Champion Tourney, thereby learning the
value of luck in a tournament of defense (a second round bye kept my
points to a minimum). I played my Journeyman's Prize in single rapier,
rapier and dagger, and rapier and buckler at MidWinter Coronation in July
2003. Despite some disparaging (and, sadly, accurate) comments about my
buckler technique, I was successful and advanced to the green sash. In
November 2003, I became Rapier Marshal for Politarchopolis and began
training with Provost Diccon Shorthand. In 2005, I had my hands full as
Rapier Marshal in Charge for Rowany Festival and Queen's Guard to Her
Most Gracious Majesty Queen Mathilde, yet proposed to my mentors that it
was time to play my Provost's Prize. After training with Francois, Dameon
and Diccon, I played my Prize at Festival in single rapier, rapier and
dagger, rapier and baton, rapier and cloak, and case of rapier. In the
longest day of my fencing life, I was examined by Provosts Aylwin
Greymane, Alessandro di Firenze, Angus the Barbarian, Caleb Adolphous and
Piers of Malmesbury, Guildmasters Henry Fox and Tariq ibn Jelal, and
Courtier to the Kingdom of the West, Michael of Castle Keep. Despite
profound doubts about seeking to join such august company, I actually had
a great time and was gratified to learn that I had been successful.
Having achieved advancement in the Guild, I am now seeking to broaden my
interests within the Society, looking at voice heraldry and theatre. I
have also taken on the position of Provost Secretary to the Guild and,
while wary of making open-ended promises to Guildmasters, plan to be in
the job for a couple of years.

HISTORY
First event, Rowany 12th Night 1983 (AS 17). Was a fringe player except
for my association with House SPON (don't remember being properly
initiated, but apparently that's a common side effect of the initiation).
Lost contact with Rowany (and the SCA) when SPON broke up (sometime
around 1985/86). Moved to Tasmania in 1988, found the SCA again in 1993
and rejoined. This time I bit the bullet and paid my membership and took
an office and have held (at least) one ever since. Authorised light in
late '93, authorised rapier in January '94 (trained by Alysaundre de
Bergerac), authorised heavy in June or July of '95. In September of '94 I
represented Tasmania in teams sabre at the Nationals after a 40 minute
'rules conversion' the night before (they were a man short). Lost my bout
5:1 to the number 1 sabreur in the country, but hey, I got a point.
Proved to me that what we do works. Did it again in '95 and represented
Australia in individual epee (by mistake, I went as a Tasmanian...it's a
long story) and Tasmania in teams epee at the Nationals; our team made
the final 8 and got to fence Estonia (what a hoot!) We went down 45:20.
Current member of the Lochac College of Scribes (journeyman), the
Peynters and Limners Guild (not ranked yet) and the Lochac Guild of
Defence (Provost, like it says at the top). Associated with West Kingdom
Scribes, ex member of the Brewers Guild. Have been a Captain of Archers,
canton A&S minister, Baronial Chronicler, Ynys Fawr Seneschal, Ynys
Fawr Knight Marshal, Baronial rapier marshal, deputy KRM and am currently
