The September Baronial conducted at Castellum Montanum was a splendid event highlighted by a strong list and abundance of food. The rapier tourney was  hard fought and well won by Connor O'Duibhuir . Marked performances were also put in by his Excellency the Baron of St Florian and Stephen Elledge.

The heavy combat had a very substantial list from Duke to newly authourised with a total of 14 combatants taking part. Highlights included the performance of Aonghus in his fist tournament where he was a credit to both himself and those who trained him. The final bout was a sight to behold between Torum and Sir Agro. Even as the sun set the two fought valiantly for the title of Champion and Sir Agro was victorious in the best of three bouts. Thanks go to Asa for her masterful handling of a complex list which allowed the fighting to wrap up just prior to the failure of the light.

The evening's feast was conducted at a leisurely pace with four resplendent courses making their way to the table in smooth sequence. Our compliments to the kitchen and especially Eleanor of Abergavenny for her efforts as head cook. On the theme of the night of getting back to basics classics such as Honey Carrots and Pears in Red wine once again graced the tables as they have from the earliest times. Game pie, pork, veal and meatballs of a delightfully spiced nature were placed before the populace. A special note must be placed on the cabbage which received surprise rave reviews not only from the vegetarians but also the carnivores as well. Cabbage, who would have thought. In court Riverhaven's long serving/suffering Herald William was relieved of his burden and in reward for his efforts in all aspects of the Society was deservingly made a member of the Cross Portate. He was in turn replaced by the lovely Hrothny Arasdottir.

Baron Hrothgar stepped aside as Seneschal to be replaced by Colum Mac Fheradaigh. Rapier winner Connor O'Duibhuir  resumed his position as Rapier Champion and Sir Agro was promoted from Sergeant to Champion. Torum assumed the position of Sergeant (regalia to appear as soon as the Champion relocates it). The guard was finalised by the inclusion of Aonghus and Eadoian in the guard positions. As penance for neglecting his regalia Sir Agro in turn regaled the populace with tales of the King who declared war on himself and the Man Who would not Die to the amusement of all assembled. The night was quietly wiled away over wine and stories of things gone and things yet to be.
