Bal d'Argent 2010

We are very happy to be able to announce that the Bal 2010 will be held on July 24th in Rowany (NSW) - details as follows:

It's on again...

Bal d'Argent

Want to wear a big white frock, but not get married? Then come and join us amidst the white when Lochac's premier dance event returns to Rowany. With dance classes, good food, garb, music and dance competitions and enough dancing to make your feet fall off, a grand time is guaranteed for all.

Time: Dance classes from 12pm -5pm, Ball from 6:30pm. Date: 24 July 2010. Location: 181 Blues Point Road, McMahons Point. Cost: $25

Competiton Dances: Saltarello la Regina (non rondelle), Picking of sticks (group), Joyessance vous donnerai, Prenes en gres, La fia Guielmina/L'altria Fia Guielmina, Ballo del Fiore (Silver Semibreve). Best white (with red/blue) outfit will also be awarded

Bal d'Argent 2009

The 2009 Bal in Krae Glas was an uproarious success, a wonderful night was had by all, and many thanks and congratulations should be offered to Yves de Lyle and his team. The non-rondel competition was won by Clemens Gascoigne, the silver serif was a tie between Will de Witte and Alliette Delecourt, and as for the group competition, with the exception of Delbert von Strassburg the winners' names are unknown (I would be glad to receive this information). No new members were admitted to the guild.

Bids are of course now open for the Bal d'Argent 2010! I am sure you are all absolutely dying to host Lochac's premiere dance event, the social highlight of the year, this stupendous exemplar of elegance and style, so no doubt I will soon be drowned in a deluge of bids...please send them to me at rifka86@hotmail.com.

What happens at the Ball

Besides the dance classes and the Ball itself, a meeting of the members of the guild is held to discuss issues relevant to the guild. They may also discuss new candidates for membership who are not present to be tested.

Each year, a new guild secretary is elected, and competition dances for next year's ball are decided on.

At some stage before the Ball new candidates are tested.

Usually at a break in the dancing, for the light supper, new members of the guild are welcomed and the competition prizes are awarded.

There is also a new Instrumental Performance competition. Holders of the Silver Semibreve are invited to prepare the piece Ballo del Fiore on the instrument of their choice. At the ball each entrant will play their interpretation of the piece for one or two repeats, depending on numbers, to be followed immediately and seamlessly (we hope) by the next contestant. The guild will then invite comments on this competition format (Does it work? Should we do it again the next year? and so on).
