Bids for Bal d'Argent 2008

Bids for the 2008 Bal d'Argent are now being accepted.

The Bal d'Argent is hosted by a group who fund it as if it were one of their own events. The organisers are usually members of the dance guild, but do not need to be.

Any group in Lochac may bid for the Bal. The Bal is usually held in July, August, September, or October of each year. Bids for the Bal d'Argent should contain the following information:

• When the Bal is to be held (date).
• Name of Bal steward, and membership details.
• Expected site for the Bal, including information about facilities for the Bal itself and rooms or space for holding classes.
• Estimated cost breakdown. Note that the Guild does not take any of the proceeds or float any funds for the Bal so you need to have your bid and finances approved by your group's Seneschal and/or Reeve. A note to this effect should be included with the bid.

You can e-mail your bid to the guild secretary or hand it to Gwyon Llangenech at any event or dance practice where you see him. Bids will close at the end of March 2008.

What happens at the Ball

Besides the dance classes and the Ball itself, a meeting of the members of the guild is held to discuss issues relavent to the guild. They may also discuss new candidates for membership who are not present to be tested.

Each year, a new guild secretary is elected, and competition dances for next year's ball are decided on.

At some stage before the Ball new candidates are tested.

Usually at a break in the dancing, for the light supper, new members of the guild are welcomed and the competition prizes are awarded.
