Hating Oneself (II)
Lord Stefano d’Urbino (August ASXXXIV)
I don’t know where or when this all will end
I know only that I shall not want it to
The rebuke I give does in me offend
The hurting I cause you beats me black and blue
‘Tis by this mirror’d pain I know I love
For when I find you grieving so I too grieve
But why does loving cause such bitter tears
And flay my skin and soul and sweetest belief
In love and loving, life and living fine
Quiet discourse, sly laughter and happy smile
Work and exercise, slumber, dance and wine
Games and sports and sometimes, resting on the while
Yet as I wish our love blooms bold, my friend
I don’t know where or when this all will end
