A&S October 2007 Minutes

This is a summary of what has been thought of and discussed for arts and sciences in Stormhold. If you have any other suggestions, don't hesitate to contact me:- quokkaqueen@hotmail.com

There is a long list of possible suggestions for activities we could be doing, and I would love any feedback!

Competitions

Current idea of time periods doesn't seem to be working
Suggestions:
Relate them to the A&S theme happening at the time
Personal challenges 'my first attempt at...'
Similar ideas to some of the themes with the A&S 50 challenge.
Problems with the more generalist approach
It can be tricky to judge completely different entries.
How many competitions?
3-4 times per year, need to judge interest in competitions.
Preference towards being held at large events.

Classes & Workshops

Encourage the collegians to come to activities over summer holidays
eg. armouring
knife making
Other suggestions, in no order:
chest making
rock carving, masonry
wood carving, chip carving, making and using pole lathes
blacksmithing
painting (things like wooden chests)
musical instrument making (eg. drums, strings)
cotehardie workshop for guys and girls
tent making
fitted hose (the clothing item)
washerwomen techniques
bannermaking
blackwork & embroidery
tablet weaving, and loom manufacture
documentation class
easy non-threatening shoes
'taste of medieval culture' from specific periods, possibly a series of classes?
chair making
hats and veils
music (instrument playing)
Elizabethan dress

Meetings

Tuesday
Continues the theme from the Friday night meeting.
The baronial meeting currently appears to disrupt the flow of the A&S activities.
Some activities more popular than others
Thursday
Mostly sewing, weaving, fibreart, garb, textiles and leather
Dancing 1st and 3rd weeks
Popular with Collegians.
Friday
Introduction to a monthly topic
Some activities more popular than others.

Other suggestions!
Collegium weekend
Horse riding in garb
Encourage more guild involvement with Stormhold.

Is there anything I've obviously missed out? Let me know!
