War Training

By Gilligan
Created 26 May 2008 - 9:05am

4th Sunday of the month
1:30pm-5:00pm
John Gardiner Reserve, Hawthorn

Combat is, of course, a major focus of activity in the SCA.

Tournaments are all well and good - a stylised spectator sport, and a lot of fun besides!

However, to really get your blood pumping, there's nothing like a good old-fashioned war!

War is different from a tournament - and not just because you've got arrows flying everywhere. It's not enough to be a good fighter, able to take down any other fighter you meet. Tactics, movement, integration with your teammates - this is what is required to be a force to be reckoned with on the warfield.

This is the purpose of War Training!
Learn how to be part of a unit.
Learn where to be and how to fight to create openings for your teammates.
Learn how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat without having to land a single blow.

Learn how to handle a spear, or a glaive, or a bow, or a siege engine!

All are welcome, whether you're a seasoned campaigner or a raw trainee.

What to bring:
* Water
* Armour
* Weapons
* Enthusiasm
* Friends (the more the merrier!)

If you don't have armour, come along anyway - there'll be bows aplenty so you can still be involved.

And if you bring sturdy boots and a groin protector, you may be able to borrow some armour and get right into it.
(To request loaner armour please contact the Marshall-in-Charge or the Baron of Stormhold)
