Greetings unto the populace of Stormhold,
Their Majesties, Theuderic and Engelin, have looked favourably upon those who have nominated for Baron and Baroness and request that you send comments and your preference to Them at crown@sca.org.au by 27 March 2009
The applicants, in order of the receipt of their applications, are Hanbal and Ute and Aeddan and eleanora. Their words follow.
Hanbal and Ute
Unto Their Regal and Just Majesties & their loyal servant The Seneschal of Stormhold, do
Hanbal Reis al Barbari & Ute von Tangermunde send greetings & best wishes.
It is with humble modesty that we put forth our nomination for the positions of Baron & Baroness of Stormhold, to be invested at the forthcoming Midwinter event, this coming July.
We feel that we have a lot to bring to the roles of Baron & Baroness within this, our Barony. Below are some points that we feel will endorse your choice in us as the most appropriate persons, for these most important roles within Stormhold.
• We have both been very active within the Barony of Stormhold for the last thirteen years. In this time we have both held positions of authority within the Barony, as well as performing more decorative roles.
Ute has been:
* Involved in heralding, including holding the position of Group Herald,
* Heavily involved in Rapier in the earlier years, including holding the position of Group Rapier Marshal for a 3-4 yr period,
* Heavily involved in archery, including being the current Captain of Archers,
Hanbal has been:
* heavily involved in the marshallate including holding the position of Knight Marshal twice,
* On the Baronial Guards for 2 of the previous Baron & Baroness’s
* Baronial Champion on at least 3 occasions
* Autocrat for a Winter Feast once as well as a number of smaller tournament style events.
• Between us, we have a wide knowledge of the Arts & Sciences, Arts Marshal & concepts of Service (both of us are protégé’s).
• We are both currently authorised combatants for all 3 forms (being full combat, plumed combat and rapier combat).
• We converse widely within the Barony and its neighbours, and as such feel that we would be acceptable to all members of our Fair Barony, wherever they may reside.
• We both regularly travel to Rowany Festival and Hanbal travels to at least 1 or 2 other events around Lochac on a yearly basis, so is known by and aware of people and issues in other groups.
As Baron & Baroness, we would hope to assist the Barony in its continuing growth, and whatever healthy results may come from this, as well as bringing a new vibe to the Barony. We would hope to continue fomenting the good relations with our neighbours (including finding a resolution to the current war with Arrowsreach, should it not be concluded by the time the next B&B are appointed), whilst ensuring that the smaller groups within Stormhold have the opportunity to reach the fullness of their potential.
We look forward to discussing our nomination in further detail at your leisure. Until such time, we hope you remain in the best of health, until the end of your reign or the world ends.
Your most humble servants
Hanbal Reis al Barbari and Ute von Tangermunde
Aeddan and eleanora
Unto their Majesties Theuderic and Engelin and their seneschal Meadhbh inghean
ui Aonghusa, we send greetings.
We, Aeddan ap Andraes and eleanora de la birche (Chris and Fiona Anderson),
wish to nominate for the position of Baron and Baroness of Stormhold.
We have been members for many years and have experience in how many of the
offices and other positions in the Barony work.
Aeddan's interests include fencing, archery, woodwork and jewellery making.
Eleanora's are cooking, textiles, heraldry, and many others. Both of us have
run events, and eleanora has run many feast kitchens.
While Ballarat is perceived as being a long way out, it is only 1.5 hours and
we travel it regularly, often going up just for an evening. We normally get
to the Stormhold officer's meeting and monthly bash, as well as events, and
we come up to fencing practice and craft hall on Tuesday nights as often as
possible. We know that it is neccessary to stay in touch with the whole
Barony, to be able to lead and encourage.
Sara and Rodrigo have nursed the barony through some difficult times. They
have been very hands on, doing much of the grunt work for events and
meetings. Living in Cairn Fell (Ballarat), we can always be available for
advice and encouragement, but can not commit to opening halls and carting
gear around Melbourne. In the long term we think that this will be a good
thing for the Barony. The group is now maturing and it is time for others to
take on some of the tasks that they have done.
While we will encourage the ideals of the SCA, we understand that real life
tends to get in the way. All members are volunteers, we need to make the
Barony a fun place to be, or people will stop playing. It also needs to be
rewarding.
We will be encouraging people, old and new, to try something new, develop new
skills, and extend old ones. We want to encourage more events, more
opportunities for people to show off their creative works, as well as their
fighting skills.
We will encourage some of the newer members to run small events and take on
less onerous offices, so they can gain confidence and experience and build up
to bigger things. This will also spread the workload out more so it's not the
same few people having to run everything.
Yours in service to the dream,
Aeddan ap Andraes / Chris Anderson,
eleanora de la birche / Fiona Anderson.
