2008 Arts and Sciences in Stormhold

The overriding theme in Stormholds' A&S activities and competitions will be one of persona development. Inspired by other competitions around the known world, the aim is to explore what your persona may have known about, experienced, or done in your chosen time period.

A&S meetings will still be held once a month, and will act as an introduction to topics that can be further discussed or worked upon at Kensington Hall, and there is a chance to show your new skills with a competition held at Monthly Bash. A lot of these competitions are documentation-based, as they deal with persona development.

Fiat Lux

Please visit the Fiat Lux site and sign the petition to keep Lochac traditions. This is the start of the petition.

The Fiat Lux Declaration

We, the undersigned, believe that the current participation of non-contact combatants (ie light archers, siege crew and banner bearers) on the war field has overwhelmingly positive effects for the Kingdom of Lochac in a number of important and divers ways. Viz:

* it provides an attractive combat format, particularly for 14-16-year olds, who are not able to take part in full-contact combat and also for many women, university students and other participants who would not be prepared or able to engage in full-contact war; this makes for stronger groups throughout the Kingdom by attracting and retaining such people

Victorian Control of Weapons Act (2)

The Victorian Control of Weapons Act 2000, and it's related legislation, the Control of Weapons Regulations 2004 and the Firearms Act 1996, was enacted to control the presence of weapons in the hands of the public that might represent a threat to community safety. The Department of Justice recognises, however, that certain historical and cultural groups have a legitimate reason to possess some of these prohibited weapons (steel or other metal swords, spears, axes, pole arms and other weapons deemed to form a part of legitimate re-enactment of medieval life and history - for the purposes of the SCA activities these weapons have to be rebated (deliberately blunted, the standard rebate being a 2mm rounded edge)), and is thus empowered, under the auspices of the Governor-in-Council, to grant exemptions to these groups for specific situations. The Society for Creative Anachronism is one such organisation. The exemption itself can be accessed from exemption.pdf . It is highly recommended that you print out a copy of the exemption, read it thoroughly and understand it, and carry a copy on you when you are in possession of your weapon.
