Arts and CraftsArts & Sciences in Stormhold, 2009Regular, weekly meetings are held on Tuesday nights, at the South Kensington Craft Hall, and Thursday nights, at the Clifton Hill Hall. On the first, third and fifth Thursdays of the month, dance class and practices are held at Clifton Hill, and the fourth Thursday of the month is an Arts and Sciences meeting. Please e-mail me, Asfridhr [rebe.lucas at gmail dot com] if you have any concerns. 2008 Arts and Sciences in StormholdThe overriding theme in Stormholds' A&S activities and competitions will be one of persona development. Inspired by other competitions around the known world, the aim is to explore what your persona may have known about, experienced, or done in your chosen time period. A&S meetings will still be held once a month, and will act as an introduction to topics that can be further discussed or worked upon at Kensington Hall, and there is a chance to show your new skills with a competition held at Monthly Bash. A lot of these competitions are documentation-based, as they deal with persona development. Baronial Banner ProjectWe're making silk banners. Our process is based on the banners made by Southron Guard and documented here Other groups in Lochac have made banners of all different sizes and I've collected scale drawings of them all. Here is a closeup of the proposed Stormhold personal banner To the right of the Stormhold or Lochac device, it is intended that members of the populace put their own design/device. The two stripes are for your motto or a patch of solid colour. The stripes are optional. Suth Gild HeallThe Suth Gild Heall is for the guilds of the southern groups of continental Lochac. It is a place for information about meetings, events and resources. The encompassing groups are The Barony of Stormhold, with its Canton of cairnfell and College of StBartholomews, the Shire of Arrowreach, and the Shire of Krae Glas and College of StMonica. Roll of ArmsHeraldry is the practice of designing, displaying, describing, and recording coats of arms and badges. The origins of heraldry lie in the need to distinguish participants in combat when their faces were hidden by iron and steel helmets. Eventually a system of rules developed into the modern form of heraldry. In the SCA, heraldry is concerned with ceremonies and Courts, the crying of announcements and proclaimations, the pomp and circumstance of the Tournament, and the authentication and registration of members' persona names and arms or badges. These areas of interest give rise to the terms "court heraldry" and "field (or list) heraldry" (both also known as "voice heraldry") and "book heraldry" (which also includes the background work and research in arranging ceremonies). The SCA has its own College of Arms. Below are examples of heraldry for notable members from Stormhols past: The Barons and Baroness of Stormhold Styvren Longshanks and Rhyllian of Starfire Retreat Alain Lorenz and Lucrezia Lorenz Sven Stormdriven and Ingabjorg Ambasdottir Rudolf von der Drau and Nicollette Dufay Gwynfor Llwyd and Gwir ferch Madog Hugh the Little and Teresa Cummins Victorian Scribes and Illuminators GuildFourth Sunday of every month - Victorian Scribes and Illuminators Guild - e-mail Master Thorfinn's private residence All welcome, even if you have never done it before.
