The weather had been hot so no one had a lot of stamina.
We used the field lights until 9:30
No Injuries

Training notes:
Hrothgar suggested to Brodhir to work on deep offside shots.

Fighter training

We had a break last week after the surveying expedition.

Oval lights

This week we switched on the field lights on the main oval. It was fantastic. It was very easy to train with the lights on. This seems to be a great advantage. The lights need to be switched off at 9:30pm and after that we just used the small worklights that we also use.

Surveying Expedition MMX

The surveying expedition was held last weekend.
There was heavy combat, fencing, and archery. There were war scenarios, Tournaments, and Archery competitions.

No injuries.

There were about 22 war combatants 15 heavy 7 archers.

There were about 7 rapier folk.

Discussion has begun about building a defensive position somewhere on the war area.

Tuesday night fighter training 17th Jan 2010

A big thanks to all who participated in tonight's activities. I really
appreciated the support and enthusiasm shown by those who attended..

We were able to give our guests, Sir Alfar and Rowena, a good display
of our welcome and hospitality.

We were also able to really get a feel for the new hall and environs
when practice is well attended.

Tuesday night fighter training 12th Jan 2010

Tonight was the first "normal" training session. The weather was about 22 degrees Celcius and was perfect for training but had been VERY hot the previous day and during the earlier part of the day.

There was heavy fighting, Rapier and Crafthall.

It was Phillipe's second time in armour and enjoyed himself. He needs to be shown some elementary techniques.

Tuesday night Fighter training

Greetings all;

A big thank to all who came along to the start of the new year at our
new venue. Those attending enjoyed the BBQ sausages and the great
company.

Thanks to those who helped organise to room, put on armour, helped
with the BBQ and generally enjoyed the new setting.

Tuesday night Fighter training

Training occurred last Tuesday. 22nd Dec.

These were the authorised heavy who attended.
Fighter practice did not occur as there was not the will to do any on this day.

About six others attended crafthall.

This is the last training and craft hall at the Kensington Community Centre hall. This occurred as the Melbourne City Council have determined that they do not wish to hire our that particular hall to non older aged groups.

We are awaiting approval to hire Coulson Reserve through the City of Yarra. Our application is in and we are expecting to start using it on the fifth of January 2010.

Getting Started in SCA Archery

If you are interested in archery you should know that there are two types of archery in the SCA.

Target archery
This is (more or less) conventional target archery where the archer shoots at static targets.

Target Bows
Target Bows can be any weight, and can be made of any material.
Most bows are acceptable, except for the following:
Bows with counterweights attached.
Compound Bows.

Target Arrows
Target Arrows must be made from materials available to bowyers before the seventeenth century (i.e. wood) so no plastic, Aluminium, Carbon fibre etc..
Fletchings must be feathers and not vanes.

General sparring occurred.

Discussion with Geoffery about securing his Protection more securely and independently of his clothes.
