The King and Queen rely on information given to them by the populace of Lochac to ensure that recognition is given to those who are deserving. If you think someone is worthy of recognition, you can bring that gentle to Their attention by recommending them to Their Majesties. This can be done by sending them a letter of recommendation to crown@sca.org.au

Kingdom Awards

The following is an explanation of what the Kingdom level awards are and why they are given.

  • Award of Arms (AoA or AA)
    This is often (though not always) the first award given. It can be hard award to define, both what it is and why it is given, but it is sometimes viewed as "Welcome to the SCA, thankyou for contributing to it".
    This award grants you the title of Lord or Lady. It also gives you the right to register your name and device with the college of heralds. Additionally, you are able to carry weapons at court.

  • Court Barony
    This is given for a variety or reasons. It can be given as thanks from the King and Queen or for a job well done. It is also given to Landed Barons and Baronesses when they step down from their thrones and the end of their reigns.
    This award gives you the title of Baron or Baroness. You are then styled "your Excellency". It also gives you the right to wear a coronet (a type of crown) with 6 points.

    Some awards that are given, come with an Award of Arms. These are those awards:

  • Lochac Order of Grace
    Given only once per Kingdom reign to those that the Crown thinks is the most courtiest in all the Kingdom.

  • Order of the Golden Tear
    For high level service.

  • Order of the Lily
    For Excellence in the Arts & Sciences.

  • Order of the Hasta Beli
    This is the Kingdom award for heavy combat.

  • Order of the Nock
    This is the Kingom award for light combat.

  • Order of the Rapier
    This is the Kingdom award for fencing.

    These are the awards that come without an Award of Arms:

  • Order of the Rowan
    Awarded for grace and courtesy. Those to whom this is awarded are role models for courtly behaviour.

  • The Prix Jongleur
    Given to those who consistently entertain the populace.

  • The Miles Regni
    Given to those you support the armies of Lochac in any significant way. This can be given to the fighters and non-combatants like Marshals, Chirurgeon, Water Bearers and so on.

  • Order of the Shining Helm
    This recognises those Fghters and Marhals, of all 3 combat types, who maintain a stylish and period appearance, and encourage it in others.

  • Pilgrim Order of Grace
    Given to those from outside the Kingdom that have given great service to Lochac.


  • Grant of Arms
    Given for long service to the Kingdom. Often given for doing a great office of the kingdom very well. Comes with the title The Honourable Lord (THLord) or The Honourable Lady (THLady).

    Some awards come with a grant of arms,these awards are polled by the members of their orders. These are those awards:

  • Order of the White Scarf
    This Order is is recognised by 10 of the 17 Kingdoms of the known world, who have signed the White Scarf Treaty. It is given to those whose service and skill in Rapier Combat has been excellent and unremitting for many years. This award givens you the title of Don or Donara. Its members wear a white scarf tied yo their upper arm.

  • Lochac Order of archers
    It is given to those whose service and skill in Light Combat has been excellent and unremitting for many years.


    Peerages
    These are the highest award that can be bestowed upon anyone on the SCA. These are Polling orders, which means that the members of the order decide if someone is worthy to enter their own order.

    These are not just awards like the ones above. The Peerages carry much responsibility as well. A peer must be a paragon of Honour, Courtesy and Chivalry. They are also expected to teach and share there skills for the betterment of our Society. They can also take on formal students.


  • Order of the Pelican (OP)
    Given for exceptional and unremitting service over many years. Comes withe the title Master or Mistress. They wear a chain with a Pelican medallion and a cloak with the Pelican symbol. Their students are called Protégé's who wear a yellow belt, with the device of their Master or Mistress on the tip. For more info visit the Pelicans' website.

  • Order of the Laurel (OL)
    Given for exceptional skills in one or more of the Arts & Sciences over many years. Comes withe the title Master or Mistress. They wear a chain with a Laurel medallion and a cloak with the Laurel symbol. Their students are called Apprentices who wear a green belt, with the device of their Master or Mistress on the tip.   • Knight of the SCA (KSCA) or Master of Arms
    Given for exceptional skills in heavy combat over many years.
    A Knight of the SCA swears fealty to the Crown. Comes with the title Sir of Dame. They are distinguished by a white belt, spurs and a chain with large open links worn around the neck They may also add to their device an white chain around the edge. For more info visit the Knights' website.

    A Master of Arms choses not to swears fealty to the Crown, for their own personal reasons. They wear a white baldric (a diagonal belt that goes over the shoulder and down to the hip). Comes withe the title Master or Mistress.

    The students are called Squires who wear a Red belt, with the device of their Master, Mistress, Knight or Dame on the tip.

    Royal Peerages
    These are not awards, as such, like the peerages above. These are both titles and an award given at the successful completion of a reign as Prince, Princess, King or Queen.


  • Viscount or Viscountess
    Given for being Prince or Princess. They can wear a viscounty coronet and are styled "your Excellency"

  • Count or Countess
    Given for being King or Queen for the first time. They can wear a county coronet, which is crenulated (looks like the top of a castle). They are styled "your Excellency"

  • Duke or Duchess
    Given for being King or Queen for the second time. They can wear a ducal coronet, which is has oak leaves. They are styled "your Grace"

    Duke or Duchess are the Highest ranks that one can attain.
