As with last year, there will be many different Arts & Sciences activities, collegia and competitions taking place at Stowe Faire.Lady Gillian is once again co-ordinating all the A&S comps, activities and collegia. If you would like to run a class or activity, or if you have any suggestions for these, please contact Gillian and let her know.
Competitions
The Arts and Sciences Triathlon
The Arts and Sciences Triathlon will be happening again. Please make sure you read the rules of entry below.
This exciting competition involves entrants submitting 3 (or more) items from a minimum of 2 different arts and sciences categories.
The submissions MUST be documented and all from the same time period for each item.
Points will be accordingly deducted from items if more than one item is in the same category (eg. 2 pieces of armour).
If you make a dress with accessories of hat and shoes, the categories would be fibre arts and functional arts. The dress and the accessories come under fibre arts and the shoes come under functional arts.
The categories for this competition are:
Visual arts - Calligraphy and illumnation, drawing, painting, jewelry, glasswork, heraldic, woodcarving, ceramics, sculpture, period models.
Culinary - All food including subtleties, breads, sweets & brewing.
Performance - Dramatic reading or interpretation, vocal, instrumental, dance.
Fibre - Costume, hats, accessories, fighter garb, weaving, spinning, embroidery.
Functional - Leather, books, armour, weapons, furniture, musical instruments, scientific instruments, herbcraft, games/toys, tools.
Compositional - Research papers (max. 10 pages), "how-to" paper, prose, poetry, song, play.
On the Spot Comps There will be some competitions which you will find out about at the event. Materials will be provided and you will have to come up with a result within a given time-frame.
You will have no warning as to what these comps are prior to the event.
Activities
So far, we have a limning activity planned, we will post more as more information becomes available.
Collegia
A few people have volunteered their time to run a class, but we don't have anything solid yet. Please contact Lady Gillian at gillianbrampton at hotmail.com if you would like to run something.
