Location of Torlyon

Torlyon is the centre of the Kingdom of Lochac. All roads leave from Torlyon.

One possible history of Torlyon

The shire of Torlyon was established by Prince Corin and Princess Keridwen on the first of May in the year 30 as reckoned in the West, as a stronghold to guard the Hume Ungous Road from thieves and vagabonds. It only attracted them.

This road bears many merchants and pilgrims between Rowany and Stormhold.

South from Torlyon lies Politarchopolis, who have ever been our truest friends and protectors.

On the very day that Torlyon was founded, Prince Corin called a great tourney by the River Dribble. The tourney was won by a giant, who smote Cristoval's shiny new helm mightily. The Prince made Cristoval seneschal of these lands. to hold them for the Kings of the West.

After long years, the key passed to Phillip of Richmond, remembered for loud mirth, great girth and a time of much archery and debauchery.

In time the key went to Alethea of Shrewsbury. famed throughout the land for her wondrous cooking, and that she sent everyone early to bed.

Thence the key passed to Isabella de Bordeaux. Some say she is of fay, and can lead the careless astray. Certainly she spent more time with the goblins than is considered seemly. She took half the shire in procession off to the underworld (Tuggeranong), and they were not seen for a year and a day.

After that unfortunate interlude, the shire decided that they needed a leader they could all look up to. So Jarek the Trumpeter was selected, on the grounds that he was the tallest.

Jarek was a mighty warrior, but turned out to be the worst cook of all the Seneschals of Torlyon. There was some relief when he was deposed by his wife, the subtle Sevastiana, who does a damn fine Cameline sauce. These things matter to the sophisticated folk of the shire of Torlyon.

The Rowany Festival

The Festival is the gathering place for the whole Kingdom.

Although the Festival is held within the bounds of Torlyon, the Barony of Rowany has been granted in perpetuity the right to a Market Faire at Eastertide, and while the baronial standard is raised the laws and customs of Rowany hold sway.

For more information about the Festival, see www.sca.org.au/rowany/festival.
