Lochac -- The Shambles: the SCA Lochac mailing list

About Lochac
English (USA)

This is the general discussion mailing list for the SCA in Australia and New Zealand (known collectively in the SCA as Lochac). This list is known colloquially known as The Shambles[1].

Legal disclaimer: The Shambles is not an official publication of SCAA Ltd or SCANZ Inc and does not delineate official policy on any matter. To put it another way[2], this is all opinion; if it were the biblical Truth, your bushes would be on fire. Details on the rules for operation of this list can be found here.

The Shambles is administered by the List Boss[3], the Kingdom Webright. You can stay on his good side by adhering to the following. Failure to do so could cause your temporary or permanent removal from the list.

  • Limit the size of your posts. There is a 20kb limit, so use plain text and trim extraneous details from replies.
  • Be courteous at all times. Tone does not translate in text, and what is written can be misinterpreted. Be polite in posting and assume the best interpretation when reading.
  • Consider your audience. We encourage discussion on a wide range of SCA-related topics, but sometimes it might be appropriate to take a conversation off-list.[4]
  • No personal attacks. Argue the point, debate the topic ... don't insult the person (refer to the second point).
1. Name coined by Peter "Balrog" Bismire.
2. Paraphrase of quotation attributed to Warren Ellis.
3. The list moderator is known as the List Boss, for no readily obvious reason. Feel free to suggest a better title. Preferably off-list ...
4. This is often a high-volume list. While it ebbs and flows, there are times when a controversial topic causes the list to have 100 posts in an day ... and 20 people unsubscribing because of the volume. Your audience is bigger than just the people replying.
